MIA....no tri season for me

Wow, I wonder where time goes.  I have been MIA, most recently, past 4 weeks, I've been dealing with some back issues which has resulted in a "no tri" season for me this year.  I've had back injuries for years and usually know it's because my weight, lack of stretching and strength training.  I've been experiencing soreness in my back for about 2 months and it came to a head when I was practicing for the Luray tri.  While biking up the last 2 climbs the back pains just became intolerable and resulted in some spasms that I couldn't get to go away so I had too walk up the last climb.  I went to the Chiro and as expected my back is in pretty bad shape.  Another contributor to my back issues is my HORRIBLE posture!!  So I'm back to Chiro and PT 3 times a week.  After consulting with the Dr we decided it would be better for me not to race Luray or Iron Girl and just focus on my back issues.  So I start my 3rd week and have been given the ok to start working out again. I'm currently only running 20 min / 2 miles but hope to build that up a bit this week and will be starting strength training this week to help build up my back and core.  Also I'm back to focusing on my weight loss, which is tough to do when you are focused on training.

I'm still planning on doing the Tour de Canal 100 miler and a mini tri at the local YMCA towards the end of September.

While I'm upset about my season, especially since this would be my first Olympic distance tri, I also realize that being healthy is the key to triathlons.  So my goals for the rest of the year are to lose the weight, get to my goal weight and get my back healthy.  I'll continue to focus on swimming, biking and running but want to kick off 2012 better than 2011!!

I'll try to do a better job of blogging and giving updates.

A week of crazy but still good miles

Week of 8/27/2012 - 9/2/20212 Exercise Walking - 0 General Walking - 27.95 miles Stationary Bike - 0 Weight loss - ?? I was a bit shocked that when I was finally able to look at my miles that I actually had 27.95 miles.  That is not a great week but considering that since Tuesday, August 28th we have been staying in a hotel and were driving from Maryland to Texas from August 29th - September 1st, I'm pretty happy with that. As I wrote in the last update, I knew it would be tough to get some exercise in last week and it was.  I decided that this was an adventure and a great opportunity to spend time with the hubby and I was going to enjoy our trip and worry about diet and exercise when we got to Texas and got settled in. The only bad thing that happened on our trip is that my fitbit , may be on its last leg.  I dropped the fitbit early last week and cracked the case and when I say cracked I can see the inside of the device.  Then towards the...

Race schedule set

Week of 12/31/2012 - 1/6/2013 Swimming - 2 Biking - 0 Running -2 Strength Training - 1 Weight loss for week - 0 Total weight loss - 27.5 As reported in the last post the past couple of weeks haven't been great workout weeks and no weight loss. But it happens right, no worries.  I'll get it back on track this week.  My back is feeling MUCH better so I'm going to do some strength training tomorrow and clearly I need to get back to biking.  My road bike is set up on the trainer between the living room and kitchen I just need to spend some time on it.  I've been very focused on swimming and running but need to make sure that I'm giving proper attention to the bike.  Plus with my back being sore I didn't want to make even more sore by getting on the bike. Along with this post you will see I have updated my race schedule.  Races fill up quick around here so I built in a back up race in case one of the races is full.  I've also been working on my 2...

Week 6 - thoughts of quitting

1/4/16 - 1/10/16 Swim - 2 Bike - 0 Run - 2 Strength Training - 0 Weight to lose - 22 lbs Mileage (weekly / 2016)   Swim - 3600 yds / 3600 yds miles      Bike - 0 miles / 0 miles   Run -8.21 miles / 8.21 mile s I don't have to clock in at work but this week I tracked my work hours and I worked roughly 68 hours. Today is the only day I have not worked.....yet (my on call coverage doesn't end till 5). I know plenty of people work as many if not more, but it's been rough on me when I'm getting up at 3:45 to get to the gym and still trying to spend time with my hubby and baby girl (our wonderful doggie).  I have been questioning my ability to juggle this job with m training schedule but this week has been the worst....I actually told myself I wanted to quit. Because I have a great hubby, who wants me to succeed in achieving my goals he listened to me cry and vent, he has been listening to me for awhile and as usual he continues to motivate m...
