Need to get back to the gym

The past 3 weeks I have been very consistent with my workout routine and have worked out at least 4 days a week primarily increasing my running and a bit on the stationary bike.  But I have been working out at home.  We have a great home gym but we don't have an indoor pool.  Every Sunday I prepare for going to the gym on Monday morning but when the alarm goes off I have been shutting it off and rolling over. The good is that I can sleep another hour and still have an hour for a workout before I have to start getting ready; the bad is that I don't have an indoor pool.  I looked at my workout spreadsheet and can't believe I haven't swam since August.  So once again it's Sunday and I've packed for the gym but this time I need to get up.  I have to get back to that pool for many reasons:

1.  I have to swim 1.2 miles next September.
2.  I have to continue to improve my swimming.
3.  It does wonders for my leg.

When I had back surgery in 2012 the Dr made it very clear that I may not gain 100% feeling back in my left leg and anything I would get back would probably be within a year and after that what I have is what I have.  Well what I have is a 1/2 numb foot and numbness throughout the back of my leg.  But when I was regularly swimming a felt the numbness was not as bad and over the past few months have noticed a significant difference enough to know that swimming has to be part of my life.

It's not so much that I mind going to the gym, I do enjoy it but thinking about getting in that cold pool when it's in the 30's outside gives me the shivers.  I'm one of those people that are always cold no matter what.  Getting into that pool is always the worst thing but I have to remember once I get going it's not bad at all.  Just typing this I have goosebumps!

I'll tell the hubby to remind me tomorrow if I shut off my alarm how important swimming is because sometimes the brain is too cloudy in the morning to realize it but once I get in the car I'm good to go.

A week of crazy but still good miles

Week of 8/27/2012 - 9/2/20212 Exercise Walking - 0 General Walking - 27.95 miles Stationary Bike - 0 Weight loss - ?? I was a bit shocked that when I was finally able to look at my miles that I actually had 27.95 miles.  That is not a great week but considering that since Tuesday, August 28th we have been staying in a hotel and were driving from Maryland to Texas from August 29th - September 1st, I'm pretty happy with that. As I wrote in the last update, I knew it would be tough to get some exercise in last week and it was.  I decided that this was an adventure and a great opportunity to spend time with the hubby and I was going to enjoy our trip and worry about diet and exercise when we got to Texas and got settled in. The only bad thing that happened on our trip is that my fitbit , may be on its last leg.  I dropped the fitbit early last week and cracked the case and when I say cracked I can see the inside of the device.  Then towards the...

Race schedule set

Week of 12/31/2012 - 1/6/2013 Swimming - 2 Biking - 0 Running -2 Strength Training - 1 Weight loss for week - 0 Total weight loss - 27.5 As reported in the last post the past couple of weeks haven't been great workout weeks and no weight loss. But it happens right, no worries.  I'll get it back on track this week.  My back is feeling MUCH better so I'm going to do some strength training tomorrow and clearly I need to get back to biking.  My road bike is set up on the trainer between the living room and kitchen I just need to spend some time on it.  I've been very focused on swimming and running but need to make sure that I'm giving proper attention to the bike.  Plus with my back being sore I didn't want to make even more sore by getting on the bike. Along with this post you will see I have updated my race schedule.  Races fill up quick around here so I built in a back up race in case one of the races is full.  I've also been working on my 2...

Week 6 - thoughts of quitting

1/4/16 - 1/10/16 Swim - 2 Bike - 0 Run - 2 Strength Training - 0 Weight to lose - 22 lbs Mileage (weekly / 2016)   Swim - 3600 yds / 3600 yds miles      Bike - 0 miles / 0 miles   Run -8.21 miles / 8.21 mile s I don't have to clock in at work but this week I tracked my work hours and I worked roughly 68 hours. Today is the only day I have not worked.....yet (my on call coverage doesn't end till 5). I know plenty of people work as many if not more, but it's been rough on me when I'm getting up at 3:45 to get to the gym and still trying to spend time with my hubby and baby girl (our wonderful doggie).  I have been questioning my ability to juggle this job with m training schedule but this week has been the worst....I actually told myself I wanted to quit. Because I have a great hubby, who wants me to succeed in achieving my goals he listened to me cry and vent, he has been listening to me for awhile and as usual he continues to motivate m...
