Total weight loss - 45.5

This was a solid week of training, especially after last weeks "mental issues."  I ran outside twice this week, trying to get use to the terrain and and not having a treadmill in front of me telling me how fast I'm going.

I finished the week yesterday with a simulated tri.  I wanted to see how close I was to my distances for an my 1st Olympic distance tri in July.  So I was scheduled to swim 58, bike 117, run 58.  I ended up doing 58 min swim - 1500 yds (slower than I would like but I had to swim in the leisure pool), bike 77 min - 20 miles (shorter than planned but my back was getting a bit sore and I didn't want to push myself to not being able to walk) and 58 min run - 5 miles (I went out too fast and had to do some walking but still very happy with my time).

Yesterday  was also my first time outside on my road bike since August 7, 2011 and that resulted in a bulging disc and eventually my back surgery last year.  Needless to say I was a bit worried but it was great.  I realized just how much I love my girl, she is light, loose, smooth and fast.  I enjoyed my ride.  I also realized that I still have a long way to go to build up the time on the bike, which means I need to spend more time on her.  The spin class / indoor cycling helps but I can't get that full feel for my back.  Also need to work on the hills!

I'm extremely pleased with my accomplishment yesterday. My only concern for the sprint distance race in 3 weeks is the hills, which I haven't gotten enough practice.  I also need to remember that nutrition is very important.  I did NOT eat enough for yesterday by the time I made it home I was ready to drop from lack of calories but that was quickly solved with some peanut butter pretzels and a Subway sandwich.

This coming week is a recovery week - I'm looking forward to the shorter workouts that will allow me to focus on form and speed.  Hopefully this will also give me some time to get in my strength training workouts which have clearly been lacking.  I have to work on building the muscle.

Overall a better attitude this week that resulted in more success!

A week of crazy but still good miles

Week of 8/27/2012 - 9/2/20212 Exercise Walking - 0 General Walking - 27.95 miles Stationary Bike - 0 Weight loss - ?? I was a bit shocked that when I was finally able to look at my miles that I actually had 27.95 miles.  That is not a great week but considering that since Tuesday, August 28th we have been staying in a hotel and were driving from Maryland to Texas from August 29th - September 1st, I'm pretty happy with that. As I wrote in the last update, I knew it would be tough to get some exercise in last week and it was.  I decided that this was an adventure and a great opportunity to spend time with the hubby and I was going to enjoy our trip and worry about diet and exercise when we got to Texas and got settled in. The only bad thing that happened on our trip is that my fitbit , may be on its last leg.  I dropped the fitbit early last week and cracked the case and when I say cracked I can see the inside of the device.  Then towards the...

Goals

I knew I was goal oriented but didn't know that meant I always had to be living by some sort of plan. Anyone reading sees that I have been off my game and have turned into a big slacker.  This has happened before.  I have lost weight in the past and come close to achieving my goal and then started slacking and end up right back where I started, or worse and then it's an uphill climb.  I'm not disciplined, yet, to live a healthy life without having some sort of goal and plan for achieving that goal. So I have established 2 goals for the remainder of the year: 1.  Get to my goal weight - I achieved my original goal weight but then set a new goal and sadly I have gone over my original goal weight.  So I have 20 lbs to lose! 2.  Figure out my 2014 triathlon schedule - I was so proud of myself for finally completing an Olympic distance triathlon and I have always said that I wanted to go for the further distances.  I have set a goal of December 1 to ...

Making my own decisions

It's now been 6 weeks of steady exercise, including sticking to the routine while on travel to India.  My eating habits have wandered a bit but I know what I need to do. Recently I have decided that I'm going to live the life I want and not what everyone else wants.  All my life I have been ruled by someone else making decisions, telling me what to do or wanting to make the right decisions to please everyone else but not really doing what I want. I realized the 1st time I made a decision / choice for myself  was when I met my now husband and decided to marry him; 22 years later it still is the best decision I made.  He has always supported me; which is something that is unusual for me an it's taken me awhile to realize this.  I've always played life safe rather than risking and following my dreams/desires. Triathlon was my 2nd decision, by me and for me.  I have neglected those desires because of work pressures.  I realize that my current job wil...
