Eight weeks from today.....I hope to be finished with my first 1/2 IM.  Time has snuck up on me quickly.  I still have some solid training ahead of me over the next few weeks.  I've waited for this race for a long time, and there were days I never thought it would come and some days I wish it was further away but this will be another moment that I test my physical and mental abilities.  Worry, fear, skepticism have started to creep into my brain and all I can do is continue to focus on my training and make my head believe that I'm ready for this.

I've been in touch with Coach Krista for some pointers on nutrition and fueling and in an hour phone conversation and reading / watching a few presentations I realized just how much I was hurting myself, but we have a plan that I'm testing out while training.  The biggest take away is I MUST take the time to drink fluids on the bike to keep my body ready for the run.  In sprint racing it's never been a problem in olympic distance races I have gotten lucky and squeaked by but that will not work for the 1/2.

Focus and hitting all my training points will be key over the next few weeks.

In eight short weeks I will have to figure out - what's next but for now one week at a time.

Making my own decisions

It's now been 6 weeks of steady exercise, including sticking to the routine while on travel to India.  My eating habits have wandered a bit but I know what I need to do. Recently I have decided that I'm going to live the life I want and not what everyone else wants.  All my life I have been ruled by someone else making decisions, telling me what to do or wanting to make the right decisions to please everyone else but not really doing what I want. I realized the 1st time I made a decision / choice for myself  was when I met my now husband and decided to marry him; 22 years later it still is the best decision I made.  He has always supported me; which is something that is unusual for me an it's taken me awhile to realize this.  I've always played life safe rather than risking and following my dreams/desires. Triathlon was my 2nd decision, by me and for me.  I have neglected those desires because of work pressures.  I realize that my current job wil...

2 weeks - WHAT!?!?!

4/3/17 - 4/9/17 Swim - 2 of 3 Bike - 1 of 3 Run - 1 of 3 Strength Training - 0 Weight to lose - 1.5 lbs  Mileage (weekly / 2017)    Swim - 4,822 yds / 60,300 yds miles    Bike - 16 miles / 491.6 miles    Run - 3.54 miles / 108.1  mile Taper starts next week.   I didn't have a great week, too much personal stuff going on that just consumed my focus and didn't feel motivated!  Lots of emotions and conversations with myself questioning whether I'm ready for this adventure this year - I still don't know the answer to that.  I feel I'm ready for the swim and despite the lack of running this year I feel I have a good plan for the run but the bike for some reason worries me. I haven't gotten as much mileage in as last year but my times are faster than last year.  But this week is important for focus - stay on target, hit my planned workouts, NO distractions and remind myself that I GOT THIS.  I can do this...

Great progress this week

Week of 1/14/2012 - 1/20/2012 Swimming - 2 Biking - 0 Running - 3 Strength Training - 1 Weekly Weight loss - 4 lbs Total weight loss - 31.5 I still have a left over cough from the cold but I was able to get to the gym all 6 days that I had scheduled.  Based on my summary I need to work on a few things, especially biking and strength training.  I did my longest run today, 55 minutes.  I was able to run the entire time at 5 mph or higher.  I want to work on increasing my speed on the shorter runs as my end goal is to run 6 mp for long distances / times. I added another event to my calendar.  Lifetime Fitness is doing an indoor triathlon.  The event will be how far you go within the below times. • 10-minute swim in the lap pool (laps are tracked by volunteers) • 30-minute cycle in the cycle studio (distance measured by computer) • 20-minute run on a treadmill (distance measured by treadmill) Clearly a short event but something fun to do...
