Ironman #2 FINISHED

4/22/16 - IRONMAN TEXAS

Swim - 1:43
Bike - 7:21
Run - 6:57
Overall - 16:25

For those that know me - realize that I do feel that I have now completed my first full Ironman.  Yes last year I did Iroman Texas and finished however since the bike course was cut short, because of the flood damage, I strongly felt that I needed to try again to say I swam 2.4 miles, biked 112 miles and ran 26.2 miles and I can say that now.

Here is my summary of my 2017 Ironman Texas adventure:

SWIM

This year was once again wetsuit optional so by electing to wear a wetsuit I gave up any age group podium opportunity which meant no KONA - Darn, though that was in reach :>)

The swim route was different than last year as the canal was not safe because of the bacteria levels so we stayed in the lake last year.  However this year we went into the canal and I would have preferred staying in the lake.  The water in the canal was nasty - smelly and lots of seaweed.  Several people complained of sickness related to the water and I might have to agree as I experienced stomach issues on the run.

Overall the swim was not bad, got hit a few times, once that was hard enough that I had to stop.  I did finish this year's swim faster than last year, so guess it wasn't too bad.  I personally thought the water was cooler than last year even though they were close to the same temperature.

BIKE

One word to describe the bike - WINDY.  This year the bike was on the Hardy Toll road and I thought for sure it would be faster than last year, which wasn't because the winds were so bad. It was a 2 loop course and was nice with no traffic but the wind was more than what I was ready for.

I was slower than last year.  I pushed hard to get through the head wind and my legs paid for it.

RUN

I was faster than last year - which is hard to believe because it felt like I was crawling.  I had a strong 1st loop but the 2nd and 3rd were much slower.

I was once again blessed to have family there to cheer me on and every participant knows how hard of a job that is.  Initially I had a strong feeling that it would be my last full Ironman but as the soreness wears off - hmmmmmm.

A week of crazy but still good miles

Week of 8/27/2012 - 9/2/20212 Exercise Walking - 0 General Walking - 27.95 miles Stationary Bike - 0 Weight loss - ?? I was a bit shocked that when I was finally able to look at my miles that I actually had 27.95 miles.  That is not a great week but considering that since Tuesday, August 28th we have been staying in a hotel and were driving from Maryland to Texas from August 29th - September 1st, I'm pretty happy with that. As I wrote in the last update, I knew it would be tough to get some exercise in last week and it was.  I decided that this was an adventure and a great opportunity to spend time with the hubby and I was going to enjoy our trip and worry about diet and exercise when we got to Texas and got settled in. The only bad thing that happened on our trip is that my fitbit , may be on its last leg.  I dropped the fitbit early last week and cracked the case and when I say cracked I can see the inside of the device.  Then towards the...

Race schedule set

Week of 12/31/2012 - 1/6/2013 Swimming - 2 Biking - 0 Running -2 Strength Training - 1 Weight loss for week - 0 Total weight loss - 27.5 As reported in the last post the past couple of weeks haven't been great workout weeks and no weight loss. But it happens right, no worries.  I'll get it back on track this week.  My back is feeling MUCH better so I'm going to do some strength training tomorrow and clearly I need to get back to biking.  My road bike is set up on the trainer between the living room and kitchen I just need to spend some time on it.  I've been very focused on swimming and running but need to make sure that I'm giving proper attention to the bike.  Plus with my back being sore I didn't want to make even more sore by getting on the bike. Along with this post you will see I have updated my race schedule.  Races fill up quick around here so I built in a back up race in case one of the races is full.  I've also been working on my 2...

7 weeks till 1st race

4/28/14 - 5/4/14 Swim - 2 Bike - 2 Run - 2 Strength Training - 2 Weight loss (weekly / year) - 0 lbs / 6.5  lbs Mileage (weekly / 2014)   Swim - 3500 yds / 34,800 yds      Bike - 53.5 miles / 584.98 miles   Run - 8.86 miles / 186.51 miles A friend reminded me this week that I have 7 weeks until my next race.  She asked me if I was ready and I said you bet.  I'm more confident than ever, so far.  I say that because often the week or 2 leading up to a race I fall apart and don't get all my workouts in but I need to stay on target with additional races to follow.  I'm confident that tomorrow I could do the Olympic distance. I want to beat my time from last year, which hopefully will be easy to do.  While my weight, currently, is slightly higher than it was last year for my race, I definitely feel more prepared physically and have been getting longer workouts in than I did last year.   This was a good week, the only thing I hav...
