This blog is suppose to be about my journey to become a triathlete. But recently I feel like I'm completely starting over with that journey. Last Monday, April 25th, I had laparoscopic surgery to remove my gallbladder. For the past couple months I had been experiencing extreme abdominal pain and through a couple of doctor appointments and an ultrasound it was determined that I had gallstones and based on the level and frequency of pain, which was not controllable by diet, that I needed to have my gallbladder removed. I was pleased at the quick turn around by my general physician and his great recommendation for a good surgeon. I went into the surgery extremely optimistic, unusual for me, and 5 days later I realize that my triathlon journey this year is even more of an up hill battle than what I had expected. The surgery went well, as planned, and I had a great support system with my husband at home a few days to take care of me and family and friends checking in via daily phone calls and emails. The Dr told me I should be able to return to light exercise within a week and triathletes versions of light exercise is far different.
Today I walked 1.8 miles around the neighborhood at close to my normal pace, I'm a fast walker, and I was excited about that. But also disappointed that this is going to be a tough journey, but one that I feel that I can accomplish. I don't think I'm ready for any jogging/running until the soreness with the incisions clears up a bit more, I'm hoping by mid/end of next week that I'll be able to do some light jogging. My goal tomorrow is to put some time in on the stationary bike and do at least 2 miles of walking if not more. I plan on getting to the pool next week as well to test out swim options.
Tonight I need to work on redoing my schedule to account for reality! So as I mentioned in my previous post, this is about tri'ing but I wanted to add a bit more spice into the puzzle:>)
