Weather

We have had a lot of rain this year and it was hard to know what weather would show up race day.  We were scheduled to have rain and were lucky that the rain stayed away and the sun stayed away, at least until I had finished.

Swim

I felt good on the swim, the water was very clean and since it was a small race, very little congestion.  I thought my siting had improved and kept me more on track that previous races.  I'm very pleased with my time but realize there is room for improvement.  Realistically future races this year will not be this easy because there will be ALOT more people!

Bike

Before the race Rob had been telling me to go all out, leave it on the course, I feel like I really tried to do that on the bike.  I did slow down a bit towards the end but overall very pleased. I decided to take my road bike rather than take the tri bike but I think I could have done the race on the tri bike but I do not think I would have been as fast and I haven't practiced eating on the bike so thought it was better to take the road bike.  The course was nice, some rolling hills, no congestion and very little traffic.  There was some chip seal and some pot holes but they were well marked.

Run

I'm pleased with my run although, I think I could have gone a bit faster than I did.  I still did a walk / run but think I could have ran more than what I did.  I was a bit slow in the beginning, more because my right shin was really tight rather than jell-o legs off the bike but I was able to get it stretched out.

Overall

The venue was very nice and I would definitely like to do this race again next year.  I improved my Olympic distance time by 33 minutes and if I would not have wasted so much time in T1 I think I could have got 3rd place, which would be a podium finish.  This is the 1st race that I have been that close to a possible podium finish, which totally changes your mentality about racing.

A week of crazy but still good miles

Week of 8/27/2012 - 9/2/20212 Exercise Walking - 0 General Walking - 27.95 miles Stationary Bike - 0 Weight loss - ?? I was a bit shocked that when I was finally able to look at my miles that I actually had 27.95 miles.  That is not a great week but considering that since Tuesday, August 28th we have been staying in a hotel and were driving from Maryland to Texas from August 29th - September 1st, I'm pretty happy with that. As I wrote in the last update, I knew it would be tough to get some exercise in last week and it was.  I decided that this was an adventure and a great opportunity to spend time with the hubby and I was going to enjoy our trip and worry about diet and exercise when we got to Texas and got settled in. The only bad thing that happened on our trip is that my fitbit , may be on its last leg.  I dropped the fitbit early last week and cracked the case and when I say cracked I can see the inside of the device.  Then towards the...

Goals

I knew I was goal oriented but didn't know that meant I always had to be living by some sort of plan. Anyone reading sees that I have been off my game and have turned into a big slacker.  This has happened before.  I have lost weight in the past and come close to achieving my goal and then started slacking and end up right back where I started, or worse and then it's an uphill climb.  I'm not disciplined, yet, to live a healthy life without having some sort of goal and plan for achieving that goal. So I have established 2 goals for the remainder of the year: 1.  Get to my goal weight - I achieved my original goal weight but then set a new goal and sadly I have gone over my original goal weight.  So I have 20 lbs to lose! 2.  Figure out my 2014 triathlon schedule - I was so proud of myself for finally completing an Olympic distance triathlon and I have always said that I wanted to go for the further distances.  I have set a goal of December 1 to ...

Making my own decisions

It's now been 6 weeks of steady exercise, including sticking to the routine while on travel to India.  My eating habits have wandered a bit but I know what I need to do. Recently I have decided that I'm going to live the life I want and not what everyone else wants.  All my life I have been ruled by someone else making decisions, telling me what to do or wanting to make the right decisions to please everyone else but not really doing what I want. I realized the 1st time I made a decision / choice for myself  was when I met my now husband and decided to marry him; 22 years later it still is the best decision I made.  He has always supported me; which is something that is unusual for me an it's taken me awhile to realize this.  I've always played life safe rather than risking and following my dreams/desires. Triathlon was my 2nd decision, by me and for me.  I have neglected those desires because of work pressures.  I realize that my current job wil...
