Getting by

I continue to get in this rut, lack of motivation before races and I worry that this could create a much larger problem when I start Ironman training.  But I realize that my training sessions immediately following a day or 2 of rest are better - I'm stronger, faster and can push harder.  One always worries if you take too much time off you will lose strength, speed, etc but I realize with fewer sessions I'm getting more out of each session.  So I'm not going to let that get me down, although it's not something you can do every week but every once in awhile I need to listen to my body.

I'm also realizing I need to stop listening to what my head is telling me.  If you think too much about the future and let it eat you up, then your mind becomes a negative, depressive mush that you end up hating.  So I'm going to work hard on keeping the negative thoughts in check.

This is a long road, I'm not the first to travel it and will definitely not be the last.  I am blessed to have the ability to do triathlons and I have the support of all my family and friends who believe in me and tell me that I inspire them and it's time to be proud of yourself.  Nobody is perfect, I'm far from that but I need to have that same level of confidence when I race that I do when I train.  I love the phrase "suck it up buttercup," and dammit its time to start.

I've also decided that I was more accountable when I was documenting my weekly/yearly distances so I will start doing that.  I still have 16 lbs to lose and while that has been an ongoing struggle I'm proud that I have easily been maintaining my weight.  I'm fitting into smaller clothes than last year at a lower weight, so I'm losing inches even when I'm not dropping pounds.

Yearly data through end of last week (10/11/15)

Mileage
Swim - 58.9 miles miles
Bike - 1232.4 miles
Run - 364.43 miles

A bit lower than numbers at the end of September but that is ok, because quality can be more important than quality.

I have also been horrible about consistently strength training and need to find time to get that into my routine.  Building strength will help build endurance and muscle all key to continued success.

  1. All of this...is what it takes...and I needed to read these words...as much as you probably needed to write them. I am glad you shared them...

Making my own decisions

It's now been 6 weeks of steady exercise, including sticking to the routine while on travel to India.  My eating habits have wandered a bit but I know what I need to do. Recently I have decided that I'm going to live the life I want and not what everyone else wants.  All my life I have been ruled by someone else making decisions, telling me what to do or wanting to make the right decisions to please everyone else but not really doing what I want. I realized the 1st time I made a decision / choice for myself  was when I met my now husband and decided to marry him; 22 years later it still is the best decision I made.  He has always supported me; which is something that is unusual for me an it's taken me awhile to realize this.  I've always played life safe rather than risking and following my dreams/desires. Triathlon was my 2nd decision, by me and for me.  I have neglected those desires because of work pressures.  I realize that my current job wil...

2 weeks - WHAT!?!?!

4/3/17 - 4/9/17 Swim - 2 of 3 Bike - 1 of 3 Run - 1 of 3 Strength Training - 0 Weight to lose - 1.5 lbs  Mileage (weekly / 2017)    Swim - 4,822 yds / 60,300 yds miles    Bike - 16 miles / 491.6 miles    Run - 3.54 miles / 108.1  mile Taper starts next week.   I didn't have a great week, too much personal stuff going on that just consumed my focus and didn't feel motivated!  Lots of emotions and conversations with myself questioning whether I'm ready for this adventure this year - I still don't know the answer to that.  I feel I'm ready for the swim and despite the lack of running this year I feel I have a good plan for the run but the bike for some reason worries me. I haven't gotten as much mileage in as last year but my times are faster than last year.  But this week is important for focus - stay on target, hit my planned workouts, NO distractions and remind myself that I GOT THIS.  I can do this...

Great progress this week

Week of 1/14/2012 - 1/20/2012 Swimming - 2 Biking - 0 Running - 3 Strength Training - 1 Weekly Weight loss - 4 lbs Total weight loss - 31.5 I still have a left over cough from the cold but I was able to get to the gym all 6 days that I had scheduled.  Based on my summary I need to work on a few things, especially biking and strength training.  I did my longest run today, 55 minutes.  I was able to run the entire time at 5 mph or higher.  I want to work on increasing my speed on the shorter runs as my end goal is to run 6 mp for long distances / times. I added another event to my calendar.  Lifetime Fitness is doing an indoor triathlon.  The event will be how far you go within the below times. • 10-minute swim in the lap pool (laps are tracked by volunteers) • 30-minute cycle in the cycle studio (distance measured by computer) • 20-minute run on a treadmill (distance measured by treadmill) Clearly a short event but something fun to do...
