7 weeks till 1st race

4/28/14 - 5/4/14 Swim - 2 Bike - 2 Run - 2 Strength Training - 2 Weight loss (weekly / year) - 0 lbs / 6.5  lbs Mileage (weekly / 2014)   Swim - 3500 yds / 34,800 yds      Bike - 53.5 miles / 584.98 miles   Run - 8.86 miles / 186.51 miles A friend reminded me this week that I have 7 weeks until my next race.  She asked me if I was ready and I said you bet.  I'm more confident than ever, so far.  I say that because often the week or 2 leading up to a race I fall apart and don't get all my workouts in but I need to stay on target with additional races to follow.  I'm confident that tomorrow I could do the Olympic distance. I want to beat my time from last year, which hopefully will be easy to do.  While my weight, currently, is slightly higher than it was last year for my race, I definitely feel more prepared physically and have been getting longer workouts in than I did last year.   This was a good week, the only thing I hav...

Did all my strength training this week!!

4/21/14 - 4/27/14 Swim - 2 Bike - 1 Run - 2 Strength Training - 3 Weight loss (weekly / year) - 0 lbs / 6.5  lbs Mileage (weekly / 2014)   Swim - 3700 yds / 31,300 yds      Bike - 30 miles / 513.08 miles   Run - 7.92 miles / 177.65 miles Another good week, extra proud of a couple of accomplishments: 1.  Completed all my scheduled strength training workouts! 2.  First time completely running up the big hill in our neighborhood! The spin instructor that I absolutely love has informed us that she is willing to teach a 90 minute class every Wednesday morning from 5-630 until July - so excited! This week I was lucky to get a massage, will definitely try to keep my monthly massage routine going as it felt great after a solid week of training.   I didn't get my extra swim in but hope to do that this week.  It might get a bit easier if this 90 degree weather continues because the outdoor pool should get a bit warmer.  I'll try to...

1st week of training completed

4/14/14 - 4/120/14 Swim - 2 Bike - 2 Run - 2 Strength Training - 1 Weight loss (weekly / year) - 0 lbs / 6.5  lbs Mileage (weekly / 2014)   Swim - 3600 yds / 27,600 yds      Bike - 47 miles / 483.08 miles   Run - 7.38 miles / 169.73 miles I was surprised this was a tougher week than I expected.  I enjoyed the lower volume but I found myself eating like I was still at the higher volume.  It was also weird that my long run was 45 min but I took advantage of the shorter runs and increased my speed.  Currently the plan only has me swimming twice a week and I don't move to 3 times a week until the end of June.  I might modify that a bit because I feel like I need to have a bit more time in the water.  I think a short swim workout focused on bilateral breathing would help me out. The only thing I didn't complete this week was my strength training, always a tough spot for me.  Often after doing cardio I'm just done and don't wan...

Are you ready for this?

4/7/14 - 4/13/14 Swim - 2 Bike - 1 Run - 3 Strength Training - 1 Weight loss (weekly / year) - 1.5 lbs / 6.5  lbs Mileage (weekly / 2014)   Swim - 3000 yds / 24,000 yds      Bike - 18.3 miles / 436.08 miles   Run - 14.03 miles / 162.35 miles Bummed that I didn't get out on my bike this week but hopefully will have a ride scoped out for next weekend. Always wanted to go into my training plan at goal weight but I'm a few pounds away from that, but I'm under 20 to go.  I think I can still focus on losing some weight before the training gets too intense and I'll just need to continue to manage calories in vs out. I took an extra day off this week, body was feeling a bit tired so thought it was better to rest than push through.  Still have a LONG way to go but first race is 10 weeks a way and that is not far at all! I have been working on my race nutrition for the past few weeks and have found 2 GU's I like and 1 that I can tolerate and a coupl...

Bike is ready to roll!

3/31/14 - 4/6/14 Swim - 4 Bike - 2 Run - 3 Strength Training - 1 Weight loss (weekly / year) - 2 lbs / 5  lbs Mileage (weekly / 2014)   Swim - 4300 yds / 21,000 yds      Bike - 36.3 miles / 417.78 miles   Run - 14.14 miles / 148.32 miles This was a good week - I got in all my planned workouts, added an extra swim and had some faster runs on the treadmill. I did my 7 miles yesterday - well sort of.  I did 7 miles but I did not run the entire 7 miles.  Things started out well then the wind picked up a bit and it got a bit colder.  I was going to settle for 5 miles and started to headed back home but I thought worse case I can walk the additional distance.  I probably walked about 1.5-2 miles but if memory serves me right as I have added distance I have usually had some walking in there.  So no worries.  I have no did at least 1/2 of each of the 1/2 IM distances, I'm VERY happy with that accomplishment. My ride also got hoo...

Live to fight another day!

3/24/14 - 3/30/14 Swim - 4 Bike - 2 Run - 3 Strength Training - 1 Weight loss (weekly / year) - 0 lbs / 3 lbs Mileage (weekly / 2014)   Swim - 3900 yds / 16,700 yds      Bike - 48.3 miles / 381.48 miles   Run - 14.33 miles / 134.18 miles I woke up Saturday morning ready to go, I had to weigh in and then 7 miles to run! I got on the scale and received my first disappointment of the day - no weight gain.  This resulted in some drama and I was very upset - my good hubby hugged me and reminded me it's a journey, some weeks we plateau and remember you didn't gain.  I was upset because I had a good week training and eating so I couldn't understand.   I had 1/2 a cup of coffee and then went out for my run - it was cold and windy.  I old did 6 miles.  It was windy and it was constantly blowing in my face or across me.  I thought my head was going to explode because of the headache that I got from the wind blowing in my ears. ...

Slacker

3/17/14 - 3/23/14 Swim - 2 Bike - 2 Run - 2 Strength Training - 0 Weight loss (weekly / year) - 1 lbs / 3 lbs Mileage (weekly / 2014) -       Swim - 2000 yds / 12,800 yds      Bike - 44 miles / 333.18 miles      Run - 7.51 miles / 119.85 miles The past 2 weeks I feel like I have been slacking off because I haven't been getting all my scheduled workouts in.  My mentality has been, something is better than nothing.  That needs to change!  In 3 weeks I officially start my 1/2 IM training plan so I want to make the most of the next 3 weeks.  The training starts at shorter times and distances than what I have been doing so I want to make sure I go hard for the next 3 weeks, use the beginning as a recovery phase and then start to kick it up. On Friday I registered for the two other triathlons that I will be doing this year, both Olympic distance tri's.  I will use these as prep for the longer race in Sept...
